Differences have emerged over mode of selection of the Patriotic Front presidential candidate ahead of the forthcoming Presidential by-election with some senior PF members rejecting the selection of the candidate by the Central Committee.

PF Secretary General Edgar Lungu yesterday hinted in a media statement that the Central Committee will select the PF presidential candidate and not the general conference as stipulated in the party constitution.

Mr Lungu stated that this is considering that party has little time to organize the general conference.
But PF Youth Chairman Chishimba Kambwili has told QFM News in an interview that there will be no shortcuts in selecting the party’s presidential candidate.

Mr. Kambwili says such suggestions will not be tolerated, stating that the party has a valid constitution which must be followed.
And Patriotic Front Chairperson for Mining and Mineral Development Wilbur Simuusa has told Journalists in Lusaka that the party will ensure it selects a candidate who the people want and not imposed on them by some individuals with hidden agendas.
Meanwhile, Kantanshi PF Member of Parliament, Yamfwa Mukanga, has told QFM News in a separate interview that it is worrying that some PF members are busy talking about succession when the founder of the party has not yet been buried.
Mr. Mukanga, who is also Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Minister, is also of the view that the Central Committee should select the PF candidate ahead of the presidential by-election.
And PF Secretary General Edgar Lungu has told Journalists in Lusaka that if the party allows corrupt individuals to take up the presidency, the whole country will be polluted.
Mr. Lungu says there is need for the PF to choose a candidate who will build on the legacy left by President Sata.
