Business came to a standstill in Kalulushi district today as the funeral procession of the late President Michael Sata was beamed through ZANIS projectors and big screens mounted in churches and public places.

Hundreds of Kalulushi, Chibuluma and Chambeshi residents this morning thronged various churches and public places to watch the funeral procession for the late President Sata.
A sombre mood, sadness and gospel music characterised the gatherings in all the three towns of Kalulushi.

And speaking in an interview with ZANIS, the residents said they would miss the late Mr. Sata for his commitment towards the plight of the poor and love for the Zambian people.

They said President Sata’s development agenda had changed the face of the country.

They have since called on the people of Zambia to elect a leader who shared President Sata’s vision.

One of the residents of Chibuluma, Mathews Daka, a business man said Mr. Sata was one person who always fulfilled his promises to the Zambians.

Mr. Daka remembered the late President for the good clinics, roads and schools that had been built in Chibuluma.

And Kawanda Phiri, a Patriotic Front constituency secretary, said the late Mr. Sata had developed Kalulushi and all its peri-urban areas.

Fr. Collins Chansa of St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church said the departed President managed to take services closer to the people.

He said people in the peri-urban areas were now receiving the same attention as those people in towns, unlike in the past when the focus was in urban areas.

Another resident, Beaton Sanayi appealed to the Zambians to elect a leader that would continue with the late President Sata’s visionary agenda.

Ezra Simutami, a marketer at Luato market, said it was unfortunate for Zambia to lose a leader who cared so much for the poor.

Mrs. Simutami said it was in the late President’s agenda to make a shelter at the market and urged the Zambians to elect a leader that would continue where the late President Sata had left.

President Sata will be put to rest at the Embassy Park in Lusaka today.
