The President of Madagascar, Heri Rajaonarimampianina, has confirmed attendance of President Sata’s state funeral, bringing the total number of heads of State coming to attend the burial to nine.
And the paying of last respects to President Sata, who died last Tuesday in London, will be temporarily suspended this morning, Secretary to the Cabinet Roland Msiska has said.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Harry Kalaba said President Rajaonarimampianina will join eight other heads of State who earlier confirmed that they would attend the burial of President Sata.
“There have been more dignitaries that have confirmed attendance and among these is the President of Madagascar,” he said.
Mr Kalaba said South Africa’s Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and Minister of International Relations and Co-operation Maite Emily Nkoana-Mashabane will also be present during the burial.
He said Swaziland Prime Minister Barnabas Sibusiso Dlamini is also coming.
And Dr Msiska said in a statement yesterday that body viewing will resume today at 14:00 hours and will go on until 19:00 hours.
“The general public and other dignitaries are also advised that body viewing will proceed normally on Sunday from 08:00 hours to 18:00 hours marking the end of the body viewing ceremony to the general public,” Dr Msiska said.
He said the programmes for Monday and Tuesday will remain the same.
President Sata will be buried on Tuesday at Embassy Park in Lusaka after a requiem mass in his honour at Lusaka’s National Heroes Stadium on the same day.
