CONSTRUCTION of a modern bus terminus in Mpika has started and is progressing well.
Mpika does not have a bus station and buses park at Continental Filling Station to pick passengers.
The bus station is being built by Henina Engineering and Contractors Limited, a local contractor.
A visit at the construction site found Henina Engineering and Contractors Limited workers busy working.
Company operations manager Coby Chisha said in an interview on Monday that construction works are progressing well.
“We are on schedule and works are progressing well because we have not encountered any problems so far,” Mr Chisha said.
He said 30 percent works of the foundation  of the building have been completed.
Mr Chisha said the bus station will have a police post, post office, administration block, and social welfare office and ticket sales outlets.
He said the project is expected to be completed between August and September next year.
Mr Chisha said Henina Engineering and Contractors Limited has so far employed 34 local people.
“We do receive maximum support from the local people and I think that is why we are moving very well with this project. We also receive good support from the office of the council secretary and other relevant authorities,” Mr Chisha said.
He said the bus station will be of good standards because his company is using high quality materials.
