A HOUSEWIFE who has been deserted by her husband has refused to grant him divorce because they have come a long way together.
This was in a case where Ferdinand Phiri 53 sued Mary-Grace Phiri 44 for divorce.
Before Justices Lewis Mumba and Petronella Kalyelye, Phiri said he met Mary-Grace in 2011 after his first wife died.
Phiri who said they got married in 2012 also said he has seven children and Mary-Grace also has children from her first marriage.
“I asked her if she would manage looking after my children if we got married and she agreed. But I noticed after we got married, she began to abuse my children,” he said.
Phiri of Chazanga also said Mary-Grace is a drunkard who has no respect for him adding that she also does not want his relatives at their home.
He said she one day told him to stop his family from visiting them as she was tired of always cooking for them.
Phiri said they’ve so far had four family meetings to discuss their marital disputes but to no avail.
And in her testimony, Mary-Grace said it is not true that she has been ill-treating Phiri’s children.
She said one of his children has been sick since June and she has been bathing him and changing his diapers.
Mary-Grace who also said she has been paying school fees for his children wondered what sort of care Phiri wanted if what she was doing is not care.
She said Phiri deserted her leaving her in a rented house where she has accumulated rentals.
Passing judgement, Justice Mumba granted divorce and ordered Phiri to compensate Mary-Grace with a fine of K2000.
