Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni speaking people in Eastern Province has dispelt rumours circulating on social media suggesting that he has died.
Speaking to Chipata’s Breeze FM radio and monitored by ZANIS, Paramount Chief Mpezeni who is hospitalized in South Africa said his condition had improved and he is likely to be discharged this evening.
And the Paramount Chief says that he too has heard rumors purporting that he had died but indicated that his condition was not serious.
He assured his subjects not to worry and expressed disappointment with people circulating such information.
And Chipata District Commissioner, Kalunga Zulu told ZANIS in an interview that he spoke to Paramount Mpezeni who he said sounded to be in good health.
Mr Zulu said the chief assured him that he is currently responding to treatment and stated that he is expected to return to Chipata by Monday.
The District Commissioner stated that the chief was evacuated to South Africa following stomach complications due to gastritis.
Mr Zulu has castigated those spreading rumors of the Paramount Chief’s death to stop being malicious and instead wish him good health.
