UNZA mourns Sata’s Death


RESIDENTS of Lunga district in Luapula Province have joined the rest of the country in mourning President Sata.
Lunga district commissioner Rose Chimbini said yesterday that the people of Lunga have received the message of the death of President Sata with a sense of grief.
“As a district, we are extremely saddened by the death of our President and on behalf of the people here, we are saying that we are mourning with the rest of the country,’’ Ms Chimbini said.
She said the people of Lunga loved Mr Sata because he declared the area a district.
And a sombre mood yesterday characterised communities in Lunga district.
“We are sad about the death of our President and through you, we are sending our message of condolences to the people of Zambia and the bereaved family,” said Kalaba Chibula, a resident of Lunga.
Meanwhile, the business community on the Copperbelt has expressed sadness and shock about President Sata’s death.
Chingola Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Freddie Musonda said Mr Sata stood on the platform of improving people’s lives through improved economic activities.
“We have learnt with shock the death of His Excellency President Sata. People from all walks of life have been affected following the death of our President, and we have to mourn our President in a dignified manner,” he said.
He called on the PF leadership to continue with Mr Sata’s vision of improving the living standards of the people.
President Sata died on Tuesday around 23:11 Zambian time at King Edward VII Hospital, London.
Mr Sata was born on July 6, 1937 and he became Zambia’s fifth President on September 23, 2011.
