Government is optimistic Zambia will beat the 2015 deadline of migrating from analogue to digital television broadcasting.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Joseph Katema has told Parliament today that government is now on course with the implementation of the digital migration programme following the delay arising from the cancellation of the initial tender for the supply and installation of digital migration equipment.

Dr Katema says government has already installed dual cast television transmitters in Lusaka, Ndola, Kitwe and Chingola, capable of transmitting both analogue and digital television signals.

He adds that the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) and the Zambia Bureau of Standards have developed the type approval standards for set-top boxes to be used by would be set-top boxes dealers to get certified.

Dr Katema says following the approval of the digital migration policy, government has now embarked on a countrywide vigorous sensitization programme to share information with the public and affected stakeholders.
