Police in Kasama have arrested four people in connection with an attempted break-in at African Banking Corporation (Banc-ABC) on independence eve.

Northern Province Commissioner of Police Charity Katanga told Mano News that those in police custody include three suspects and a security guard at the bank to help police with investigations.



Commissioner Katanga named those arrested as Kelvin Phiri of Kasama’s location township commonly known as PK, a regular caller on Radio Mano’s Hot Issues programme, David Mawere of Lusaka’s Chingwere compound, Joseph Bwalya of Chingola and Abiud Chanda a security guard at Banc ABC.

She revealed that three other suspects are on the run and has since warned that police are working round the clock to ensure that they are brought to book.

Commissioner Katanga added that a bag containing some sharp instruments and explosives has since been recovered.

Ms. Katanga explained that around 18:00Hrs on Independence Eve, six men went to Banc ABC premises and tied the two security guards on duty and attempted to break-in.

She stated the six suspects wanted to enter the Bank using the roof top but their plan failed an alarm went on and they all fled the scene.

The police commissioner said police followed up the matter and managed to arrest three suspects.
