Lukulu joins Golden Jubilee celebrations

Lukulu, 27 October, 2014, ZANIS — Lukulu District in the Western Province joined the rest of the country on Friday last week at St Columbus grounds in commemorating this year’s Independence as Zambia turned 50 years.

And from the district, five freedom fighters were honored for their contribution towards the attainment of independence.

Among them were Hudson Samazaka, Mary Kashweka, the late Livinus Mubuyaeta, the late Kayombo Vula and the late Moses Katota who was the first Area Member of Parliament for Lukulu East.

And Education Deputy Minister Patrick Ngoma who graced the event said independence celebration was a time to celebrate and appreciate the gallant men and women who fought for the country’s  emancipation.

Mr. Ngoma said the district should continue to maintain peace and uphold the spirit of selflessness and patriotism exhibited by the freedom fighters.

He said Zambia will be a strong nation once people continue to unite and build the nation with determination despite the  different interests.

Mr. Ngoma expressed joy that many people had turned up for the Golden Jubilee celebrations in Lukulu and that a good number of activities leading to the celebrations took place in the district.

He commended the good leadership of the District Commissioner  Precious Muyenga and all her staff for the good organization of the event.

The event was characterized by  various entertainment activities from schools and churches who sang songs and sited poems of thanking God for His favour on Mother Zambia.
