THE Long awaited welterweight non-title international fight between Esther Phiri and Uruguay’s Jennifer Fasho has been set for November 30 at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.
Phiri’s manager and trainer Anthony Mwamba confirmed the development in an interview in Lusaka on Friday.
The fight was initially scheduled for September but was postponed due to logistical hiccups.
Mwamba said five companies including Zesco Limited have come on board to sponsor the fight.
“This time around we are going to do it. No postponement again. So far so good we have managed to get some sponsors. We want to give the Zambians the best anniversary gift. Their boxing heroine is back,” he said.
Mwamba said the budget is K300, 000 and so far most of it has been raised.
The bill has six supporting bouts that will see Africa Youth Games bronze medallist Lina Kasweka battling it out against Zimbabwe’s Patience Mastara.
And Phiri said getting back in the ring after two years will be easy because boxing is in her blood.
“I am still the Esther Phiri you used to see sweating in the ring two years ago. Nothing has changed about me except I am back with more zeal. I am training really hard,” she said.
Phiri promised a new punch which will be revealed a few days before the fight.
