Govt. calls on Zambians to appreciate freedom fighters’ efforts in liberating Zambia

Chipata, October 24, 2014, ZANIS — Government has called on Zambians to appreciate the efforts that freedom fighters made to liberate the country by participation in national development.

Minister of Commerce Bob Sichinga says there is need for people to uphold the peace and unity that the forefathers fought during the
Independence struggle.

Mr. Sichinga said it is for this reason that Zambians need to be proud of the country’s achievements.

ZANIS reports that the minister said this during the Jubilee Independence celebration in Chipata  district, today.

Mr. Sichinga however, expressed disappointment with opposition political parties for boycotting the independence celebrations.

He said the celebrations were events that cuts across political lines hence the need all political parties to participate.

He thanked the United National Independence Party (UNIP) and the Patriotic Front (PF) for taking part in the celebrations.

Mr. Sichinga said the country attained its freedom through unity therefore there is need for people to continue with the same spirit in order to get economic emancipation.

He disclosed that government has already shown commitment by releasing the final draft constitution.

He said government is now interested to state the road map of coming up with new constitution by engaging the public who will have the
final say.

And people from all walks of life in Chipata district today gathered at the David Kunda Stadium to celebrate the country’s golden jubilee.

Zambia is today celebrating her independence golden jubilee under the “Commemorating God’s favour of 50 years of independence for continued peace, unity, patriotism and prosperity.”
