Government says it will continue to endeavour to promote a good and positive working relationship between the employers and workers.

Minister of Labour and Social Security Fackson Shamenda said government is striving to provide an enabling environment for employers and workers to co-exist under mutually benefiting terms such as providing a formal platform at the Tripartite Labour Council and other forms of interaction.

Mr Shamenda disclosed that government has enacted legislations such as the Factories Act and Employment Act 265 in order to ensure the workers are protected from some harsh conditions of service that might be a danger to their health and well-being.

Mr Shamenda  said this during t the launch of the Zambia Union of Financial Institutions and Allied Workers (ZUFIAW) Annual sports festival in Lusaka today.

He urged the unions and management to take advantage of such initiatives to begin to make significant contributions not only for promoting work relations but also for the growth of their institutions and improvement of the economy.

Mr Shamenda affirmed his ministry’s support for progressive and uniting initiatives which bring people together in the interest of achieving a common goal and taking Zambia towards becoming a middle income country.

And ZUFIAW president Ackim Mweemba noted that the business environment has become competitive hence the need for the corporate world to take a leaf from sports and employ some benefits associated with active sports in their operations to outperform their competitors.

Mr Mweemba disclosed that ZUFIAW has joined the Zambia National Heart Coalition in the hope of promoting good health and productivity in the working environment.

He expressed happiness with the support rendered by government and other cooperating partners during the planning and hosting of the event.
