100-year-old freedom fighter wishes Zambians peace

Lusaka, October 14, ZANIS—A hundred year old freedom fighter January Banda has called on Zambians to continue living in peace as the country celebrates its golden jubilee this year.

And Mr. Banda has urged opposition political parties not to boycott Zambia’s golden jubilee celebrations, which climaxes onOctober 24, 2014, because this is the time to reflect what the country has so far achieved since independence in 1964

He told ZANIS that some people lost their lives during the freedom struggle hence the need to remember them by upholding the peace they fought for.

Mr. Banda further urged Zambians to support President Michael Sata in his quest to develop the country.

He said Zambians should realise that it is God who chooses leaders hence the need for everyone to support the elected authority of a particular time.

And Mr. Banda has further implored young people in the country to desist from being used for electoral violence by selfish politicians.

He stated that it was displeasing to see young people engaging themselves in electoral violence adding that the youth should instead work to honour those who died to liberate Zambia from colonialism.
