DEC arrests Tanzanian for trafficking in heroin

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) in conjunction with Tanzanian police, have arrested a 20-year-old Tanzanian national for trafficking in 82 sachets of heroin.

 

DEC Public Relations Officer, Theresa Katongo, said Adam Chilongo, a business man of Tuduma in Tanzania has been jointly charged with four Zambians for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 3.6 kilograms.

 

She said Chilongo was apprehended in Chianga village in Nakonde.

 

Ms Katongo said the commission has also in the last three days arrested more than 20 people country wide for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in various quantities of cannabis.

 

She said among those arrested in Sesheke district are two peasant farmers of Lusibi area namely, Francis  Mulemi, 30, and Samson Miyoba, 21, for cultivation of fresh cannabis weighing 52 kilograms and 41.5 kilograms respectively.

 

Ms Katongo said others arrested and jointly charged include Beauty Lundofu, 21, a house wife of Kashita area in Kapiri Mposhi and James Mangani of the same area for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 1.82 kilograms.

 

She said also arrested is David Samalele, 46, a peasant farmer of Makuya village in Mwinilunga district for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 12.6 kilograms and Musonda Kapasa, 53, a peasant farmer of Maximo village in Samfya for trafficking in 11.53 kilograms of cannabis.

 

Ms Katongo said in Lufwanyama the commission has arrested Elina Sakeni, 69, a peasant farmer for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 1.6 kilograms and Alice Mwewa , 40, a farmer of Sokolo village for trafficking in 1.2 kilograms of loose cannabis.

 

She said all suspects will appear in court soon.

 

Ms Katongo stated in a statement released to ZANIS News today.
