Mafinga poacher shoots himself

–A 59-year-old man of Mafinga district in Muchinga province has accidentally shot himself whilst poaching.

Muchinga Province Deputy Police Commissioner, Bonny Kapeso, confirmed the incident to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Chinsali today.

Mr Kapeso has identified the victim as Mutual Soliam of Wenela village in Chief Muyombe`s area in Mafinga district.

Mr Kapeso said that the incident happened last night around 20:00hrs at Wenela village.

He said Soliam shot himself on the left side of his back using a homemade gun, adding that the victim has sustained an open gunshot wound.

Mr Kapeso said Soliam is in a critical condition and has since been referred to Isoka District Community Hospital.
