There was a heavy presence of Police officers at the former Commonwealth Youth Center located at the University of Zambia (UNZA) main campus this afternoon after students stormed the premises yesterday with the view of repossessing the building which houses the National Youth Development Council.

The students forced out all workers at the center paralyzing the operations of the council.

A check by QFM News crew at the Centre around 15:30hrs found police officers manning the center in full riot gear to prevent the students from entering the premises.

And National Youth Development Council Chairman Savior Chishimba has told QFM News in an interview that the behavior of the students is embarrassing to the international community.

Dr. Chishimba has accused some senior UNZA management staff of instigating the students to take over the center.

Dr. Chishimba narrates that the Common Youth program has not closed as purported by the students but has merely restructured.

He wonders where the students are drawing their powers in attempting to take over a diplomatic center, saying they should never indulge themselves in such sensitive matters.

Dr Chishimba reveals that the students went ahead and confiscated the Higer Bus belonging to the National Youth Development Council and that they are still holding on to the keys for the bus.
