PF Kabanse ward councillor, Collins Chola urges the government to consider tarring the economically viable Kawambwa – Mporokoso road to speed up development in the area.

Mr Chola says while he appreciates government’s efforts in tarring the Kawambwa – Muscoda- Luwingu road, tarring the Kawambwa -Mporokoso road was also viable before the onset of the rains.

He was speaking in an interview with Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS ) in Kawambwa District, today.

Mr Chola notes that most of the parts on the road are in a bad state hence tarring will be the only solution to solving the problem for
motorists in the area.

He added that the road is economically important as it links Mporokoso district to the rest of the country.
Meanwhile, Mr Chola is asking the government to involve councillors in the provision of the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) to reduce problems.

He says some people in his area have raised concerns on how the social cash transfer is being given to beneficiaries and councillors are
failing to intervene because they are not involved during the selection of clients.
The councillor also says some people are complaining that beneficiaries of the SCT are not selected on merit bringing a lot of confusions in
the ward.

Mr Chola further says the issue of Social Cash Transfer programme is a sensitive one and needs councillors’ involvement because they know people better as they live with them.
District Social Welfare Officer, Bright Chileya could not be reached for comment by press time.
