Commissioner Moses Katebe says there is need to maintain grave sites of freedom fighters who died in Zambia’s struggle for independence
in the District are buried.


He said said the venture will symbolise appreciation and remembrance of the people who died for the country’ liberation as Zambia celebrates its Golden Jubilee of independence.


The District Commissioner said this in Lukaleshi Village when he visited families of three freedom fighters who died during the independence struggle.


Mr Katebe has since appealed to the organizing committee for the
Golden Jubilee Independence celebrations to reserve some money to maintain the grave yards for the gallant freedom fighters.


And Lukaleshi Village Headman, Fredrick Musonda said the three freedom
fighters were only identified by nick names Chabe, White and
Mattel and buried in different Villages of Lukaleshi, Kabutu and Mwenge.


Mr Musonda said well-wishers have in the past helped to maintain the
grave site for Chabe in Lukaleshi, while the other two have not been
maintained.
