26 illegal immigrants from Ethiopia yesterday appeared before Nakonde Magistrate court for failing to present themselves before the nearest immigration officer contrary to the laws of Zambia.
The case however could not take off due to lack of an interpreter.
Magistrate Joshua Sikazwe adjourned the matter to October 18 for plea and allow the immigration department time to find an interpreter.
The 26 illegal immigrants were intercepted by Immigration officers on September 26 this year on the Isoka / Kasama road around 01 hours.
The illegal immigrants had hired a Toyota Noah and a Nissan Elgrand which were both being driven by Zambian drivers who later fled upon being intercepted.
When interviewed, the immigrants said they were travelling to Lusaka en route to South Africa in search of employment.
The youngest among the illegal immigrants is 15 while the oldest is 43 years old.
