Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition (CSO-SUN) says the latest Food Agricultural Organisation (FAO) report indicating that Zambia has the highest prevalence of undernourishment in Africa makes sad reading.

The FAO report says Zambia’s undernourishment rate stands at 48 percent of the population.

CSO-SUN country Coordinator William Chilufya says it is disheartening to note that many children in Zambia are still undernourished.

Mr. Chilufya states that the statistics are shocking considering the development potential which Zambia has.

He adds that there is need for the country to do more in terms of producing up to date information instead of relying on 2007 statistics to inform decision making in 2014.

Mr. Chilufya has also appealed to Government to commit to providing regular data to enable effective programming for nutrition in the country.
