Agriculture and Livestock Minister Wylbur Simuusa has assured farmers in the country that measures have been put in place to combat any outbreak of pest diseases in the coming farming season.

Mr. Simuusa has told QFM News that the outbreak of army worms in the 2011/2012 farming season gave government an insight to plan for unseen emergencies.

Mr. Simuusa says farmers should not worry about anything because his ministry has put everything in place.

The Minister has since reaffirmed government’s commitment to ensuring that the plight of farmers is taken care of especially that Zambia’s economy is dependent on them.

Mr Simuusa says government is aware of the threat pests such as army worms pose to food security in the country.
