Lukulu police officers receive kudos

Lukulu, 16 September, 2014, ZANIS — Government says it is happy with the operations and hard work exhibited by the Police service in Lukulu district.

ZANIS reports that Lukulu  District Commissioner Precious Muyenga said this was despite the police officers in the area working under difficult conditions.

Ms  Muyenga said the Police service in Lukulu was faced with a number of challenges such as  in-adequate transport and accommodation.

She added that lack of a state prison in the district also posed  a challenge as the police are forced to keep convicts including those from Mitete in their limited cells.

Ms. Muyenga has since called upon the Prisons and Police Service Commission to spearhead the construction of a Police camp and a state prison in the district to motivate the officers.

Speaking when Prisons and Police Service Commissioners called on her this morning , Ms. Muyenga said despite these challenges, she was happy with the work force from the Police service.

Meanwhile, Prisons and Police service commission chairperson Alexander Museba said the commission is committed to building a good image of the two institutions under its jurisdiction and pledged to see to it that the challenges being faced were  addressed.

Commissioner Museba however urged police officers in the area to be none partisan but remain loyal to the government of day.

He further warned them not to engage in corrupt activities but continue to work with vigor to maintain law and order in the district adding that those who will be found wanting will face disciplinary action.

Commissioner Museba said that as the district joins the rest of country in celebrating Zambian’s Golden Jubilee, the commission is confident that officers will continue to foster freedom and provide security to the people.

The Commissioners are in the district to familiarize themselves with the conditions of living and work challenges Prisons and police offers face.

After the courtesy call, the Commissioners met the officers and at the Lukulu council chambers.
