UPND scoops local government seat in Chibombo

Opposition Unuited Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Clement Ng’andu has won the  Chilochabalenje Local Government by-election in Katuba Constituency in Chibombo District.

 

ZANIS reports that Ng’andu polled 557 votes beating his closest contender Evelo Chilala who was re-contesting the seat on the Patriotic Front (PF) ticket  got 373 votes.

 

The Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) candidate Dickson Kelvin Chilayi got 20 votes while United National Independence Party (UNIP) candidate Justin Chunga polled 17 votes.

 

Returning Officer Mutandi Mwanamwalye, declared UPND’s Clement Ng’andu as duly elected councillor for Chilochabalenje ward around 22:45 hours last night.

 

A total of 978 ballot papers were cast while 11 of them were rejected.

 

Chilochabalenje Ward has four polling stations with a total of 2,473 registered voters.

 

The Local government seat fell vacant following the expulsion of Evelo Chilala from the UPND.
