Preparations to hold the 50 years anniversary of Zambia’s Independence in Mitete District have reached an advanced stage.

Mitete District Administrative Officer Evance Kawilila said the people of Mitete should be proud because the independence celebrations will be held in the district for the first time.

He pointed out that since Mitete was recently declared a district it has participated in national events such as Women’s day, Labour and the district agriculture show.

In an interview with ZANIS in Lukulu yesterday, Mr Kawilila said that a number of activities to spice up the celebrations have been lined up.

However, the district administrative officer expressed concern with transport challenges.

But Mr Kawilila has said measures to meet this challenge are being worked on adding that organizing committees are working hard to see to it that the event will be a success.

Since the creation of Mitete as a district this year, a number of government projects have commenced such as the construction of Mitete Boarding School whose works are on course.
