Two die, eight family members injured in road traffic accident in Rufunsa

–Two members of the same family have died on the spot while eight others sustained minor injuries in a road accident in Rufunsa district of Lusaka province.

And Rufunsa District Commissioner, Paul Kasongo, has reiterated his call for motorists to observe basic traffic rules in order to curb road carnage.

Both Rufunsa District Community Medical Officer, Musande Siyolwe and Chongwe District Hospital Medical Officer-In-Charge, Job Mwanza, confirmed the accident to ZANIS last night.

The accident happened around 20:00 hours and claimed 2 female adults on the spot after a Noah vehicle they were travelling in overturn following a front tyre burst.

The Kaoma-bound Noah, which was carrying ten members of the same family, overturned in a place called Kaputi in Kankumba area in Chinyunyu area.

Dr Mwanza said the victims were members of the same family who had gone to Chipata to attend a family wedding and were enroute to Kaoma.

Dr Mwanza further explained that the Noah vehicle was driven by 21-year-old Munalula Musheke who has been admitted to hospital for head injuries and other minor body injuries.

He, however, described the condition of other victims as stable and have been placed under observation as a precautionary measure.

Dr Mwanza stated that the rest will be discharged after undergoing routine medical check-up and taking of X-rays tomorrow.

And Rufunsa District Commissioner, Paul Kasongo, has reiterated his call for motorists to observe basic traffic rules in order to curb road carnage.

Mr Kasongo implored motorists and other road users to reduce speeding along the Manenekela-Chinyunyu stretch.

The DC has since consoled the family on the loss of two members and wished those admitted a quick recovery.

This is a fourth fatal road accident along the Manenekela-Chinyunyu in a space of three weeks and a third time involving a Noah vehicle in similar incidences.
