——The Luapula Province Provincial Electoral Officer has observed that delimitation of wards and polling districts in Bahati and Mansa Central Constituencies in Mansa district will encourage more people to vote.

Amusa Zaza says the delimitation exercise, which will involve the creation of new wards and polling stations, will help reduce the long distances that the electorates cover at the time of
registration and elections.

Mr Zaza added that the delimitation exercise has also been necessitated by the increase in the population, adding that the only other delimitation exercise was done in the year 2005 when the population was not like the way it is today.

ZANIS reports that the Provincial Electoral Officer said this when he opened a three-day delimitation stakeholders meeting at Mansa Hotel in Mansa yesterday.

Mr Zaza, who is also Provincial Local Government Officer, noted that the current delimitation will only discus and agree on the new wards and polling station and not constituencies and will only be effected after the Ministry of Local government and Housing approval.

He said in its quest to decentralise the country, government has created 29 new districts across the country, a situation which has resulted in the revision of some district boundaries to pave way for
the new districts.

The process for delimitation of wads and polling district boundaries throughout the country is scheduled to run from July to October 2014.
