—–The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has purchased 8, 521 X50 kg bags of maize in Shangombo District of Western province in the on-going marketing season.

District Commissioner, Dominic Lisulo, revealed to ZANIS in Shangombo that so far about 171 local farmers have benefited from this year’s
marketing exercise.

Mr Lisulo says K178, 99 has since been paid out to 54 farmers in the area, stressing that 117 farmers have been marked for payment this
week.

He noted that this development is as a result of government’s commitment to improving the agricultural sector across the country.

Mr Lisulo explained that the good harvest exhibited by locals this year is due to the early distribution of farming inputs by government
through the Ministry of Agriculture whose exercise he said has
continued to improve since 2012.

The District Commissioner has since appealed to the FRA to continue purchasing the commodity in the area and ensure that all farmers
are paid on time to enable them buy inputs for this farming season.
