About  20 division four Council workers in Shangombo district have not been paid their salaries for 24 months.

District Council Works Foreman Nawa Mundia who spoke on behalf of the aggrieved workers told ZANIS in Shangombo today that the Council has not paid its workers for two years.

Mr Mundia said the Council had also not communicated with the aggrieved workers on why they have not been paid their salaries for two years.

But when contacted for a comment, District Council Secretary Milton Sakala said it was not true that the management has not paid the division four workers salaries for the past two years.

Mr. Sakala explained that the alleged 24 months non-payment of salaries was an accumulation of payment for years that have come about due to the council’s low revenue collection.

He said the council has no capacity to pay its division four (4) workers monthly saying it  only collects a maximum of K5, 000 revenue per month.

Mr. Sakala has since appealed to the government through the Ministry of Local Government and Housing to consider introducing special grants for local councils like Shangombo whose revenue base was low
