Men in Western province more loving  – report

Mongu, September 1st, 2014, ZANIS —-  Western province is among the few places in Zambia that have recorded few cases of Gender Based Violence (GBV ) involving men.

According to statistics conducted by YWCA Western Province has recorded one case of which a male aged between 20 and 25 was battered by his wife in 2013.

And a concerned Mongu resident of Western Province Kabukabu Mulasikwanda  however says that there were at the same time increased cases of women killing their husbands.

He placed the blame on men in the area who he said shy away to report  that they are battered by their spouses.

Mr Mulasikwanda stated that this can be for the fear of being embarrassed because according to Zambian tradition it is believed that a man is the head of a house.

He later articulated that some men become scared even with sensitisation from places like the victim support unit, Young Women Christian Association and hence such cases become too rampant in the community adding that parents are so adamant about reporting such cases
