——Government has handed over K14, 000 to seven women’s clubs in Kabwe.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Central Province Permanent Secretary, Edwidge Mutale, said government is putting in place Economic Empowerment Programmes for women.

Ms Mutale said Government is committed to uplifting the lives of women because women increasingly find themselves excluded by their economic standings in society.

“It is important to empower women as they are more likely to spend their profits on improving the living standards of the family,”.she said.

The Permanent Secretary has since encouraged the women to develop strategies on how to expand and diversify their business activities to ensure profit maximisation.

And Kabwe Central Member of Parliament, James Kapyanga, further added that Government created a Women Economic Empowerment Fund as a vehicle to promote development for wealth creation and improve the livelihood of women at household level.

Meanwhile, Zambia National Women’s Lobby Chairperson, Rebecca Museteka, said her organisation will continue to advocate and lobby for the increased representation of women in decision making as it is one way of bringing women’s issues to the fore.
