A THIRTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD taxi driver of Chililabombwe has been poisoned and his vehicle snatched by robbers who ‘hired’ him.
Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Joyce Kasosa confirmed the incident which occurred at the weekend and named the victim as Mathews Chikwanda, of A181 Mine Township.
Mr Chikwanda was on Saturday operating from Lubengele Market in Chililabombwe using a Toyota Corolla registration number ACX 3579 when he was ‘booked’ by criminals.
Ms Kasosa said the robbers snatched the vehicle between Chililabombwe and Chingola’s Kanyemu area.

Mr Chikwanda was found dumped on Sunday around 09:00 hours by a fellow taxi driver who took him to the Police and later hospital.
“The taxi driver is suspected to have been given poisonous food as he is feeling very drowsy and is unable to talk properly,” Ms Kasosa said.
It is believed that the robbers gave Mr Chikwanda food laced with poison which rendered him powerless after consuming it.

After consuming the food, Mr Chikwanda became unconscious and was only discovered in the bush. He was taken to Kakoso Hospital where he was receiving treatment for poisoning.
She said no arrest had been made but that Police have launched investigations in the matter.
