——-The Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) has implored journalists in Northern Province to be proactive in reporting on issues of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).

ZICTA Information and Consumer Protection Manager, Katwamba Mwansa, said it is important for media personnel to be well acquainted with latest
trends in ICTs in order to discharge their duties effectively.

Mr Mwansa said this during a media forum organized by ZICTA in Kasama over the weekend.

He appealed to the media to make sure they bring out any cases of ICTs exploitation as it is ZICTA’s   mandate to protect rights and
interests of consumers from any form of abuse.

Mr Mwansa further urged journalists to join the fight against sending provocative images on the internet using mobile phones as it is
prohibited and against the law.

And speaking on behalf of other journalists, Nicholas Mtonga thanked ZICTA for organizing the media forum which enabled the journalists
from different media houses to understand the functions of the organisation.

Mr Mtonga has since urged journalists to put the knowledge imparted on them by ZICTA to raise awareness on the development taking place
in the communication sector.

He further said the media have an important role to play in making sure that members of public were well informed on issues of national
interest.
