Authorities in Northern Province have embarked on preparedness for a possible EBOLA outbreak.

Chairing a meeting for stakeholders held at the provincial planning unit conference room this morning, Regional Permanent Secretary Hlobotha Nkunika said it is important for the public to be on high alert.

Mr Nkunika added that the province has a number of border entries hence the need for readiness by health and security authorities in an event of an outbreak.

Ebola has no known cure and since the beginning of the year, 1,229 people have died of the virus.
It is transmitted by direct contact with the body fluids of an infected person.
Initial flu-like symptoms can lead to external haemorrhaging from areas such as eyes and gums, and internal bleeding which can cause organ failure.
