Women in Mkushi District have expressed gratitude to the District Council for empowering them  with land.

In an interview with ZANIS, Zambia National Women’s Lobby Group (ZNWLG) Mkushi District Coordinator Gertrude Banda said that the women were grateful for he development.

Mrs Banda said that the Government through the local council had given almost 50 percent of council plots to women.

She urged the Government to continue to empower even more women saying that when they empower women they will empower a nation.

She also mentioned that empowering women is key in the reduction of destitute juveniles in the district.

Mrs Banda further encouraged women to acquire real assets such as titled land from the local authorities and not focusing on acquiring assets of luxury.

She added that the overnment should therefore set aside deliberate farming schemes for women so as to facilitate their contribution to the development of the nation.

Mrs Banda explained that this would help women and the community to mitigate poverty.
