Three more wards proposed for Chibombo District

Chibombo, August 19th, 2014, ZANIS —  The Electoral Stakeholders in Chibombo District have proposed and submitted to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) three more wards and 17 polling districts which they want to be created in the area.

The newly proposed wards include Cholokelo Ward in Katuba Constituency while others are Mundu and Malambanyama Wards in Keembe Constituency.

The stakeholders arrived at the decision during a three Day District Stakeholders Delimitation meeting held in the Council Chamber in Chibombo District.

And Chibombo District Council Secretary Josephine Phiri, who is also the District Electoral Officer, told the stakeholders that the proposed wards will be submitted to the Ministry of Local Government for consideration and approval.

Ms Phiri emphasized that ECZ will only be able to effect the delimitation of the new council wards after the Ministry issues the statutory instrument to legalize the new wards in accordance with section 9 (2) of the local Government Act CAP 281.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) is conducting delimitation of ward and polling district boundaries throughout the country.
