Civil society backs govt’s plan on crop levy


Chipata, August 19, 2014, ZANIS…. The Civil Society for Poverty
Reduction (CSPR) have supported plans by government to reintroduce the
crop levy.

 


CSPR Provincial Coordinator Maxson Nkhoma says plans by government
should be realized as it will go a long way in providing service
delivery by the local authorities.

 


Mr. Nkhoma has noted that most councils in the country are failing to operate at full
capacity due to lack of funds.

 

ZANIS reports that the CSPR Provincial Coordinator was speaking in an interview in Chipata district, today.


He explained that crop levy proved to be one of the sustainable income
generating venture for the councils countrywide.


He said it is for this reason that it should be reinstate as a measure
to alleviate the current problems that councils are faced with.


Recently Local Government Association President Mulenga Sata announced
that government is considering reintroducing the crop levy as way of
improving revenue for the local authorities in the country.
