POLICE in Kaoma have launched a manhunt for United Party for National Development (UPND) Katuba member of Parliament Jonas Shakafuswa for allegedly assaulting six Patriotic Front cadres.

Mr Shakafuswa, who is believed to have been in the company of some party cadres, is alleged to have clashed with the PF cadres at Mwanambuyu Primary School in Mangango constituency between 10:00 and 11:00 hours yesterday.
Western Province deputy commissioner of police Lackson Sakala confirmed the development here yesterday.
Mr Sakala said knives and other sharp objects are believed to have been used in the act.
He said the six victims, who sustained various injuries, were issued with medical reports and are currently receiving treatment at Kaoma District Hospital.
“The victims are able to identify Mr Shakafuswa, who was in the company of other cadres.  So, we are looking for him,” Mr Sakala said.
Mr Sakala said police have launched a manhunt for the Katuba law-maker, who is believed to be on the run.
Efforts to get Mr Shakafuswa proved futile as his number could not be reached.
This incident comes barely a week after PF and UPND cadres allegedly clashed here during campaigns for the by-election that has attracted five parties.
People in Mangango are scheduled to go to the polls this Tuesday.
Alliance for Democracy and Development is fielding Mwene Nalawa, the Movement for Multi-party Democarcy has Charles Mwenzala while Rogers Lingweshi will represent the Patriotic Frint.
Mukumbuta Kabuyana will stand on the Fourth Revolution party ticket, Godwin Putu is with UPND while UNIP will be represented by Janet Chingumbe.
There are about 33 polling stations and about 17,157 registered voters in Mangango, where the seat fell vacant following the court’s decision to nullify the election of Robert Chiseke due to corruption during the 2011 elections.

  1. Violence from MP’s must not be tolerated in a democratic country. Disagreements should be debated peacefully. This Katuba MP must be arrested and charged if the allegations are true. This will be a warning to all MP’s regardless of political affiliation, who abuse their position and let power go to their heads.

  2. POETIC JUSTICE ! THE SAVAGE HAS CAUSED ENOUGH SUFFERING TO THE PEOPLE OF KATUBA. THROW THIS ‘MAN’ IN JAIL.
