—-Government is deeply concerned with the growing trend of unhygienic re-packaging of food products on the market.

Commerce, Trade and Industry Permanent Secretary, Siazongo Siakalenge, has since called for food packing that will not put the health of citizens in danger.

Mr Siakalenge said the health of Zambian people remains top on government’s developmental agenda hence the need for retailers to maintain best food packaging practices.

ZANIS Reports that Mr Siakalenge said this yesterday in a speech read on his behalf by Director of Planning, Mateyo Kaluba, at the launch of the 500 grams sugar pack at the Zambia Sugar at Nakambala Estates in Mazabuka.

Mr Siakalenge commended Zambia Sugar plc for the launch of the new product and hoped that it will reach the majority Zambians.

Earlier, Zambia Sugar Managing Director, Aubrey Chibumba ,said the launch of the 500 grams household package was meant to meet the basic needs of all its customers.

Dr. Chibumba reaffirmed his company’s commitment to reposition itself as the customer driven company ensures that its products and services respond to the unique market dynamics of the country.
