Mr Mwelwa said the programme which is a government policy on rural sanitation is aimed at stopping open defecation, a vice detrimental to people’s health.

The District Commissioner said this when he paid a courtesy call on Chief Mailo at his palace , today.

He  advised the traditional ruler to engage his subjects to help government fight diseases that are preventable through interventions like CLTS programme.

Mr Mwelwa said the Champions have continued to face huge opposition as some village Head Persons are not cooperating with them.

And Chief Mailo of the Lala people thanked government for taking the sanitation programme to his chiefdom.

He pledged to give the programme the support it deserved to ensure his chiefdom attains an Open Defecation Free (ODF) status.

The chief said he will not spare any of his subjects who will refuse to build toilets in their village.
