—–The outbreak of Ebola on the African continent has not affected the tourism sector in Zambia.
Zambia Tourism Board (ZTB) chairperson, Felix Chaila, says the Ebola outbreak in some parts of Africa has not had any negative impact on the tourists’ inflow in Zambia.
Mr Chaila said the inflow of tourists in Zambia is still normal despite the Ebola outbreak which has claimed over a thousand lives in some West African countries.
Speaking in a telephone interview with ZANIS today, Mr Chaila said tourist sites, such as the Victoria Falls and others, are still full of tourists coming from different countries.
He has since expressed happiness with the efforts the Ministry of Health has put in place to combat the outbreak.
Mr Chaila said the ministry of health is doing a great job through its sensitisation and screening projects at airports and other entry points used by tourists.
He also expressed happiness that the Ministry of Health has also issued a travel advice restricting not only nationals of the affected countries but anyone traveling from the affected countries into Zambia.
The travel advisory is a precautionary measure to ensure that Ebola does not reach Zambia.
Mr Chaila has, therefore, urged all tourists to get more information about Ebola from the Ministry of Health if they are to be on the safe side.
The Ebola outbreak has largely hit some West African countries in the past few months with close to a thousand people dying from the disease.
West African countries affected by the Ebola outbreak are Nigeria, Sierra Leon, Guinea and Liberia.
The virus is spread through body fluids such as blood and coming into contact with the body of someone who died from the disease.
Signs and symptoms of Ebola are headache, joint and muscle pains, weakness, diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach pain, loss of appetite, rash, red eyes, hiccups, cough, sore throat, chest pains and difficulties in breathing and swallowing.
