Luano DVEC appeals for more allowances

Luano, August 08,2014,ZANIS………… Luano District Voter Education Committee (DVEC) has appealed to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to consider increasing allowances for its members.

The Committee says this is in a bid to successfully carry out the voter education exercise.

DVEC chairman Peter Mutale said during a DVEC Meeting that allowances for fuel and committee members were not enough to monitor the voter education exercise ahead of the local government by elections slated for 19th August 2014.

The DVEC chairman said that most of the settlements in Luano district were hard to reach adding that the committee faced the challenge of monitoring voter education facilitators only twice in 28 days.

He said that there was also need for the ECZ to  consider creating easy to reach polling stations in Luano district in order to avoid apathy during elections.

Meanwhile, District Voter Education Trainer Jimmy Nsama said that the one day training meeting for DVEC formation was not adequate for the new members to be oriented.

Luano DVEC was formed on 9th July 2014 consisting members from Organizations among them the Zambia Police, Foundation for Democratic Process and Faith based Organizations.
