IMMIGRATION BARS BRITISH CITIZEN FROM LEAVING ZAMBIA

THE Immigration Department at Kariba in Southern Province has denied a British from leaving Zambia because he has two passports.

The incident happened on Monday this week.

Immigration Department public relations officer Namati Nshinka said in a statement that the Immigration Department denied a Brit exit from Zambia.

“The British citizen was refused exit when it was discovered he was using both his British and an Irish passports simultaneously,” Mr Nshinka said.

He said those holding two passports were only allowed to use one passport at any given time.

The Brit would be allowed to leave Zambia when he clarified matters concerning his passports.

The Immigration Department at Nakonde border on Tuesday, also refused six Tanzanians entry into Zambia for holding duplicated passports.

Mr Nshinka said in a related development, the Immigration Department was holding a Chinese for abrogating conditions of his employment permit.

The Chinese was found working for a company other than that indicated on his permit.

Meanwhile, the magistrate’s court in Chipata on Tuesday, convicted and sentenced six Malawians to fines ranging from K 200 to K 600 for unlawful stay.

The same court on Monday, also convicted seven Malawians for unlawful stay. They received sentences ranging from K 200 to K 1,000 fines.

Mr Nshinka said in Mwense, the Immigration Department deported two male Congolese ex-convicts.

He said the duo having completed serving their respective prison sentences for immigration related offences were deported to their country of origin on Monday via Kashiba border.

In Nakonde, a Tanzanian and a Kenyan of Somali origin were on Monday deported after they completed serving their respective sentences for immigration related offences.
