Former ZAWA Chief Vlahakis dies

Lusaka, August 1, 2014, ZANIS—Former Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) Director-General Xenophon  Vlahakis has died.

Mr. Vlahakis 65, died yesterday at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) where he was admitted.

ZAWA Public Relations Officer Readith Muliyunda has announced the death of Mr. Vlahakis in a statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today.

Ms Muliyunda said ZAWA and the country as a whole has lost an intelligent, sincere, humble and passionate leader in Mr. Vlahakis.

Mr. Vlahakis served in various portfolios in government for over 35 years including that of Tourism Permanent Secretary in the then Ministry of Tourism and Transport.

His last appointment was with ZAWA as Director-General from January 2013 until April 2014.

Funeral of the late Mr. Vlahakis is being held at his home at house number 931 Kamayi Street, New Avondale.

Burial will take place in Chirundu on Monday, August 4, 2014 after a  Church service at Saint Ignatius Catholic in Lusaka.
