PARAMOUNT Chief Mpezeni on Wednesday morning shot and wounded a suspected thief who was found in one of his vehicles at his Ephendukeni Palace in Chipata.
Chief Mpezeni said he shot the suspect who turned out to be his subject in the legs and apprehended him around 02:00 hours.

The chief said in an interview in Chipata yesterday that he fired at the suspect, who tried to escape after being challenged.
“I was woken up after hearing noise outside.  I used the kitchen door and when I came outside, I saw someone sitting in my Land Cruiser with a light on,” he said.
Chief Mpezeni said he asked the suspect what he was doing, but the man remained mute and decided to run away.
He said the suspect could have climbed the wall fence to gain access to one of his vehicles.
The chief said he reported the matter to Chipata Central Police Station and later took the suspect to Chipata General Hospital where he is admitted.
Eastern Province Commissioner of Police Grace Chipalila named the suspect as Axon Daka, 38, of Feni in Chief Mpezeni’s area.
Ms Chipalila said Daka was shot around 02:00 hours on Wednesday by Chief Mpezeni, who suspected him of being a thief.
She said the suspect is nursing bullet wounds at Chipata General Hospital.
