Day old baby dumped in pit latrine

Chinsali, August 1, 2014, ZANIS…POLICE in Chinsali district have retrieved the body of a day old baby girl dumped in a pit latrine.

Both Muchinga province deputy Police Commissioner Bonny Kapeso and Chinsali District Commissioner Evelyn Kangwa have confirmed the incident in separate interviews with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Chinsali today.

Mr. Kapeso said the body of the baby was retrieved from a 6 meter-deep pit latrine with the help of the local people.

Mr. Kapeso said the baby is believed to have been dumped in a pit latrine two days ago adding that the suspect is currently on the run and a man hunt has since been launched.

He identified the suspect as Grace Chileshe believed to be hiding in Mundu village.

Chandamali village eye witnesses told ZANIS that neighbours heard the baby crying in the toilet the day it was dumped adding that they became suspicious when they discovered the suspect who was heavily pregnant a few days earlier was not seen around the house where the baby was allegedly dumped.

And Chinsali District Commissioner Evelyn Kangwa has condemned the incident describing it as barbaric and uncalled for.

The District Commissioner has since appealed to the public to assist the police with information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect.

ECZ delimitation exercise excites Lupososhi MP

Luwingu, August 1, 2014, ZANIS- Lupososhi Member of parliament Lazarus Bwalya has praised the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) for increasing the number polling stations in Luwingu district.

 

Mr Bwalya praised the ECZ during community meetings held at Mumba, Mufili, Lwenge Primary Schools and Sunday village in his constituency.

 

He said the ECZ has increased the number of polling station from the current 82 to 99 for Luwingu adding that his constituency has been allocated 10.

 

He said the aim was to reduce the distances people walk to get to the nearest polling station that forced many not to participate in elections.

 

Mr Bwalya said some polling stations where between 7 to 10 kilo meters apart and that this forced many eligible voters to shun elections.

 

“While we appreciate ECZ for increasing polling stations in Lupososhi there was still need to add by 20 more polling stations,” he lamented.

 

Mr Bwalya also appealed to people in his constituency to rally behind President Sata’s  leadership for the constituency to achieve maximum development.

 

Mr Bwalya told thousands of villagers who attended his rallies that Lupososhi constituency is one of the constituencies receiving developmental support from the PF government and there was need for people in his constituency to support President Sata.

 

He elaborated that Lupososhi had seen more developmental projects such as the construction of Katuta boarding secondary school, the construction of constituency assembly office, and the construction of six (6) health posts among the 650 health post countrywide.

 

Mr Bwalya further said some of the road construction under the Link Zambia 8000 road project starting from Luwingu district administration will pass through his constituency such as Luwingu-Samfya, Luwingu-Chilubi, Luwingu-Kawambwa and Luwingu-Mansa roads will bring development to the area.

 

He further thanked the  Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) for installing the FM radio transmitters in Luwingu district because the community is now accessing the much need information.

 

Mr Bwalya said the entire Lupososhi constituency is connected to the transmission and the reception was very good as compared to the period when Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) was in power.
