POLICE have arrested four people in Manyinga district for allegedly illegally installing a Luchazi chief in Senior Chief Sikufele’s area.
The three, with other unknown people, were apprehended in the process of installing and proclaiming Njamba Kawina, 29, as Chief Mutunda Wangambo the 8th of the Luchazi people, contrary to the law.
North-Western Province commissioner of police Eugene Sibote said in an interview yesterday that the incident happened on Wednesday at about 10:00 hours in Kapembe area.
Mr Sibote named the other three as Kajiko Njamba, 38, William Petulu, 72, and Manjimela Kahyata, 63, all of Kapembe village in Senior Chief Sikufele.
He said police have charged the four with conduct likely to cause breach of the peace and are remanded in police custody.
Meanwhile, police in Solwezi have arrested a 31-year-old man of Ndola’s Kawama township for masquerading as a public officer.
The man has been identified as Felix Mwila of house number 15/5 Kawama compound.
Mr Sibote said Mwila was arrested in Kisasa area in Solwezi after he introduced himself to a village headman as a police officer who was in the area to mobilise crime prevention units.
Mr Sibote said Mwila is in police custody and will appear in court soon.
