Tanzanian national dies in road accident

Shiwang`andu,  July 25, 2014,ZANIS… A Tanzanian national has died after a fatal road accident involving three trucks in Shiwang`andu district of Muchinga Province.

Both Muchinga Province Deputy Police Commissioner Bonny Kapeso and Shiwang`andu District Commissioner Moses Katebe confirmed the accident in separate interviews to the Zambia News and Services (ZANIS) in Shiwang`andu today.

Mr. Kapeso said that the accident happened in Shiwang`andu along the Great North Road, South of Chinsali turn off, in the early hours of yesterday and that all the tree trucks were Tanzanian registerec.

He said the accident happened when an unidentified driver of a Scania Truck registration number T926 CBU trailer numberT140 failed to keep to his side and collided head on with a DAF truck registration number T683 BRY/T361 BTC which  being driven by Khalfan Juma Jackson aged 30.

Mr. Kapeso added that in the process of avoiding the two trucks, another DAF truck registration numberT824 BQD/T424 BEP driven by Abby Mlangi Mlazza aged 44 swerved and overturned to the left side.

Mr Kapeso said Khalfan Juma Jackson died yesterday around 11:20 hours at Mpika district community hospital after he sustained fatal head injuries.

Mr. Kapeso further said that Mlangi Mlazza sustained body pains while the driver who was at fault driving a Scania truck is on the run and that Police have since launched a man hunt.

Both DAF trucks were coming from Mufulira heading to Nakonde while the Scania truck was coming from Nakonde.

Meanwhile, Shiwang`andu District Commissioner Moses Katebe who also visited the accident scene said all the three trucks have extensive damages.

This is a second accident to occur in a space of four days in the district after three people died while three others sustained multiple injuries after a Toyota Hiace they were travelling in overturned following  a tyre burst in Matumbo area of Shiwang`andu district.
