Some parts of Kazungula district in the Southern Province have been invaded by lions that have so far killed a number of domestic animals.

The situation has caused panic among  the affected community members who have expressed fear that  their lives were also in danger.

Both PF Sekute ward councilor Lackson Inambao and UPND Ngwezi ward councilor Herbert Simundivwi have confirmed the development to ZANIS in Kazungula in separate interviews today.

Mr. Inambao said he was worried about the development and urged the people in the affected areas to minimize their movements.

He commended the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) officers from Livingstone who are currently on the ground hunting for the lions for their quick response.

Mr. Inambao however disclosed that the ZAWA officers have not yet found the Lions but hoped that they would soon gun down at least some of them.

He named the affected wards as Mandia, Sekute, Sikaunzwe, Ngwezi and Kanchele adding that the lions might eventually move to  other parts of the district.

Meanwhile, Ngwezi Ward Councilor  Herbert Simundivwi has described the invasion by the lions as disturbing and wondered where they were coming from.

Councilor Simundivwi said as of yesterday five domestic animals in his Ward were killed by the lions.
