Northern Province Permanent Secretary Hlobotha Nkunika says there is need for the private sector to join forces with government to improve the economy of the country.

Mr Nkunika said government has set the pace of development by erecting infrastructure and implementing economic programmes to improve the welfare of the people in the country.

He was speaking yesterday during the official opening of the Northern Province agriculture, tourism and investment show characterized by traditional performances and sports activities at Kasama Stadium.

The three day event attracted participants from all the nine districts in the province including government departments and the private sector.

Mr Nkunika said the 2014 theme ‘Breaking new grounds – Commemorating Zambia’s 50 years of independence’’, reflected the successes achieved by the Patriotic Front-PF government in the last two and half years.

In commending the banking sector for their active participation in the event, Mr Nkunika said banks are critical in ensuring that citizens stay abreast with financial information and the state of the economy.

Show Society Organizing Committee Chairman Bwalya Kaniki appealed to government to help develop a permanent structure to hold the annual event.

Mr Bwalya thanked exhibitors from various organizations for showcasing their products and services during the show.
